Fortress (sucky heroes, level 3 magic, all creatures except flies slow) Favourite to Play: 1. Dungeon (Overlords rock the world) 2. Tower (from a strictly strategic viewpoint, this is the funnest faction to play) 3. Stronghold (behoobies have such a delicious crunch when the chomp on critters) 4. In this video I do a basic overview of Heroes 3 Fortress strategy, including an overview of strengths, weaknesses, and a discussion of basic strategies. For a

Fortress Overview - Heroes of Might and Magic III / Heroes 3 Fortress Rating I. Creatures - powerful but slow melee units, highest defence. Cheap, with good growth (gnolls, flies). Great specials (Poison, Dispel/Weakness, Death Stare, Stone Gaze) make this lineup a deadly army. + troops: Gnolls are OK.

You gain new possibilities when you reach level 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15. The number of available combinations is different depending on the faction you choose, but usually it's around 30-40 buildings. What's worth mentioning is that during one game you can have few cities.

Fortress. Units: A decent choice for beginners, especially on small to medium maps. However, intermediate players may find Fortress a frustrating faction to play as they find they hit a ceiling with regard to their army later on in the game. A lot of players have a biased perception of Fortress because of this.

I guess it's because its too rigid -> lvl 1+2 before 3+4 before 5+6 before Dragons. Also, need mage lvl 3 for Blacks and tons of resources. Although they do have some great heroes, mana vortex is great (especially with town portal), and a few great creatures. Gunnar might be the best hero in the game with his logistics and tactics.
